My daughter is 10, but my wife's oldest son is celebrating his, uh, 28th(?) today. She has three others (two more sons and one daughter) that are legal adults and another daughter that will be 17 next month. In fact, our daughter plays with Tina's oldest granddaughter. She's five years older than her, but still old enough to exercise a sense of elder authority.

Amanda will be 5 on 1/8!

And yes, my manners have improved since her arrival. Before that, I was swash-buckling pirate....yar!

Yes absolutely Jody, I meant in a good way!! :)

Having a daughter could only HELP make you a better man all the way around... otherwise you might ALL be just a bunch of Pirates, as high flow most graciously put it. :)

Is it ok if I still wear an eyepatch, watch Pirates of the Caribbean and drink dark rum when no ones around?

Hey BrianE - Where are you from? I ask because you use the term 'pert near', which is/was an oft used contraction in my family, which funnels back to Plattsmouth, NE.

My grandma has written a book about growing up there. Her tales of hard-farming life and good times at the local taverns are full of such slang terms. What a gift...

High Flow-
I'm a west coast native, actually (birthplace: Riverside, California), but I guess I picked up a little bit of a country flavor to spice up my syntax from my parents, who were from the south. Dad grew up in Blue Mountain, Alabama, next to Anniston, and Mom was from Walcott, Arkansas, a flyspeck on the map somewhere in between Jonesboro and Paragould. And I don't think "pert near" was really a part of their vocabulary. I have spent many years living in rural Illinois, so I picked up some twang around here, although I don't believe the people in this area think of themselves as having that kind of a dialect. But a lot of them do. I just like to talk funny, really. Part of my instincts as an actor, I guess. That career choice didn't pan out, but that's a whole other can of worms.
